Shockwave Therapy - what it is, and when can it help?

Shockwave therapy is an advanced, non-invasive treatment designed to help chronic or stubborn injuries that have not responded fully to rest, exercise, or manual therapy alone. The treatment uses controlled acoustic waves directed at the affected tissue to stimulate blood flow, accelerate cell metabolism, and trigger natural healing responses in the body. It is widely used for tendon problems such as Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, gluteal tendinopathy, and calcific shoulder pain conditions that can linger for months and significantly limit daily movement. Shockwave sessions are typically short and do not require anaesthetic or downtime, allowing you to continue most normal activities immediately afterwards. Some people feel mild discomfort during treatment, but this is usually temporary and manageable. Over a series of sessions, many patients experience reduced pain and improved mobility as tissue healing progresses. Shockwave therapy is not suitable for everyone, but when clinically indicated, it can be a highly effective option that supports a faster return to comfortable, confident movement.
